Collingwood Batchellor

Collingwood Batchellor is a family run business with a flagship Department Store at Horley in Surrey.
Aswell as stores in Horsham, Haywards Heath, Worthing in West Sussex and Haslemere in Surrey.

A Brief History

Mr J A Collingwood partner of ‘G W Collingwood & Son’ furniture shops formed Collingwood Batchellor after acquiring the Victoria Road site from W.H.Batchellor in 1968.

His wife Mrs Audrey Collingwood then became Managing Director in 1979. Once the opportunity arose to buy the freehold, she embarked upon an ambitious plan to rebuild, develop and reorganise the business into a department store.

In 1993 Collingwood Batchellor expanded outside of Horley for the first time by opening a Bed and Linens Shop in the Orchards Shopping Centre Haywards Heath.

In 1997 family owned furniture store Allistons was acquired to become Collingwood Batchellor’s Horsham Branch, which was refitted to house an extended range of furniture.

2001 saw the addition of a Furniture Store in the premises next door to our Bed & Linen shop in Haywards Heath.

With the success of Collingwood Batchellor’s expansion, in 2002 the Haslemere Branch opened its doors, which again specialises in Furniture.

Following in Mrs Collingwood’s footsteps her sons, Guy and Thomas are continuing to develop the business.

2006 saw the first phase of the Horley Branch’s Redevelopment and in October 2007 the second phase was completed. After a culmination of over 10 years planning Collingwood Batchellor Horley has expanded by almost a third. Some of the many improvements include: expanded Linens, Furniture and Fashions departments and a brand new Ladies Shoe Section.

In 2008 the Horsham branch was totally refitted with the addition of a lift for easy access to both floors.

Summer 2009 saw the relaunch of our Haywards Heath Bed & Linen Store, plus the addition of a linen department to the Halsemere store.

2010 saw the launch of Collingwood Batchellor's Homeware Clearance Store in Swan Walk, Horsham.

In Spring 2011 work began on Phase 3 of the Horley Branch’s Redevelopment, expanding the 2nd floor Bed & Bedroom Furniture section.
