There’s a lot to consider when buying a new mattress and bed; whether you’re after something soft or firm, a guest bed or a main bed, a super king or king size. Whatever you’re looking for, we’ve created a care guide for beds and mattresses to help you narrow down the huge range of options.

Choosing Your New Bed

It’s important to understand the benefits of the different options and materials available when choosing your bed. We’ve produced a small care guide for beds and mattresses to help you choose the right bed; as well as providing all the information you need to take care of it once it’s been delivered to your home.

Mattress Types:

  • Open Coil Spring System – Each spring is arranged separately in rows which are connected by a wire frame. The fillings available with an open coil mattress are white hollow fibres or memory foam.
  • Pocket Spring System – Springs are encased in individual pockets, compressing and extending independently of one another and offering even support as the springs adjust to your body. A higher spring count distributes weight more evenly, while the tension of the springs affect how firm or soft a mattress feels.
  • Memory Foam – Memory Foam is designed to mould and adjust to the contours of your body, distributing weight evenly and keeping your spine aligned. This unique material also helps to relieve aches and pains ensuring a good night’s sleep.

Bed Types:

  • Divan – Divans are available with a choice of drawer options to maximise storage space. We recommend mattresses and bases are purchased at the same time as placing a mattress on an old base may affect the warranty.
  • Bedstead – Bed frames are available in wood, fabric and metal to match your bedroom furniture.
  • Guest Bed – Guest beds are available in wood and metal, and are perfect if you occasionally have family or friends over to stay.

Headboards

There are two main types of headboard: strutted and floor-standing.

Headboards come in various styles, including wooden, metal and upholstered. Please note: our divan sets do not include headboards.

Caring For Your Mattress

When you receive delivery of the mattress:

  • Once you’ve received delivery of your order, we recommend you air the mattress for a few hours to allow it to breathe.
  • Please do not bend or roll the mattress as this will cause permanent damage to the spring unit. Please ensure the mattress is not rolled for storage.
  • Mattresses will soften over time, therefore your mattress will initially feel firmer.

Prolonging the Lifespan of your Mattress:

  • If provided, please use the handles on the sides of the mattress when attempting to lift it.
  • Clean your bed regularly with a soft brush. Never wet-clean your mattress; always follow the manufacturer’s guide when cleaning. If the mattress does get wet, stand the mattress on its side to allow it to air.
  • Unless you’ve purchased a non-turn mattress, we recommend regularly turning your new mattress for even wear. For the first three months it’s important that you regularly rotate your mattress. We recommend doing this every week. After three months, the mattress should be turned monthly. This will reduce natural dips in sprung beds.
  • Frequent turning and rotating will reduce natural dips and ‘nesting’ in spring interior mattresses.
  • Avoid sitting on the edge of the mattress as this may distort its shape.
  • Ensure that any spills are quickly mopped up using a dry cloth to avoid stains. We recommend purchasing mattress protectors to avoid this.

Caring For Your Mattress – Linens & Bedding

Mattress Protectors:

To prolong the life of your mattress we recommend using mattress protectors or toppers. Designed to protect your bed from stains and dirt, mattress protectors will help to keep your mattress clean.

Mattress Toppers:

Designed for increased comfort, mattress toppers are an extra layer you can add to your mattress for either a softer or firmer feel.
